SOUTH CENTRAL AREA RECOVERY PROVIDES ADDICTION GRANTS AND RENTAL SPACE FOR COUNSELORS
South Central Area Recovery (SCAR), located in Holdrege, NE is a non-profit organization formed to provide a safe environment, education, and support for those dealing with, or touched by addiction and for those who have suffered traumatic life altering events. SCAR’s mission is to promote recovery, healing, and positive change. SCAR is fulfilling its mission with two new resources for recovery from addiction, a family member’s addiction and help for those needing counseling.
The SCAR Aid Fund provides grants for individuals wanting to recover from addiction or the effects of addiction of a family member. The grant (up to $1500/person) aids individuals with low income/no health insurance for services like counseling, sober living, alcohol education and substance abuse evaluations for those living in Phelps, Kearney, Harlan, Franklin, Gosper and Furnas counties. Grant funding is paid directly to the provider. SCAR partners with Phelps Memorial Hospital Foundation to provide this badly needed service. SCAR knows it is easy to assume that people just don’t want to get help or choose not to. The reality is there are barriers that prevent people from getting the help they need, desire and deserve. The purpose of the grant is to address financial barriers to receiving treatment.
SCAR has two offices designated for counselors. One of the offices is available for rent and the other office is occupied by Bailey Dahlgren, a Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Therapist who works primarily with children and families at Midwest Encouragement and Counseling Center in Kearney and Holdrege. She earned her master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and brings with her a strong foundation in education, having spent five years as a teacher before transitioning into the field of counseling. Through this experience, Bailey gained a deep understanding of the academic, emotional, and developmental needs of children—insight that continues to shape her work as a therapist. She believes wholeheartedly that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and loved.
SCAR provides a community space for like-minded organizations and welcomes the opportunity to provide a place for meetings and services. Contact SCAR at (308) 248-0123 for more information about using our building or the SCAR Aid Fund.
